Why the world needs your light (and why you can stop holding yourself back)

Do you recognize that feeling? That somewhere deep inside you feel there is more in you, but a little voice constantly whispers: "Just act normal, that's crazy enough"? Or: "Who are you to chase that dream?"

In our search for a balanced life, paradoxically, we often get stuck not on our weaknesses, but on our own strengths. We have become so accustomed to adapting, pleasing others, and staying 'safely' in the background that we forget what it feels like to shine brightly.

There is an iconic line from the film Coach Carter (originally written by author Marianne Williamson in her book A Return to Love) that flawlessly exposes this phenomenon. It is a line that gives me goosebumps every time, and that touches the essence of what we are trying to achieve together here at A Balanced Life:

Our Deepest Fear

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?'Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.We are all meant to shine, as children do.We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love (bekend uit Coach Carter)

You don't help the world by keeping yourself small.

The words touch upon a universal truth. "Your playing small does not serve the world." Putting yourself down, hiding your talents, or downplaying yourself is not a form of modesty. It is a form of fear. And unfortunately, it does not help the people around you move forward.

When you choose to fully embrace yourself — with all your beautiful qualities and your imperfections — something magical happens. You open the door to change. You gain more energy, experience less stress, and feel a deep, inner peace. You find balance.

But the most beautiful part is the ripple effect: when you let your light shine, you unconsciously give others permission to do the same. Your courage to truly be yourself inspires your partner, your children, your friends, and your colleagues to take off their masks as well.

Step into your power at A Balanced Life

Each of us has a unique value and a light of our own that deserves to be seen. A balanced life means that there is room for you. That you make choices that resonate with who you truly are, independent of the expectations of the outside world. Do you find it daunting to take up that space? That is completely normal. Breaking patterns and putting yourself first requires courage. But know that you don't have to do this alone.

Here at A Balanced Life in Aalter, we create a safe, professional, and warm place where we search for your balance together. Where we remove the noise, so that your own unique light can shine brightly again. Because the world is so much more beautiful when you dare to be completely yourself.
